I’m bumping this post to put some attention on Karma again, and give us all a change to see what’s changed since the last Karma/South Node (tropical) conjunction. Thoughts?
Asteroid 3811 Karma is a main belt asteroid discovered Oct 13, 1953 by Liisi Oterma, a Finnish astronomer at Turku Astronomical-Optical Institute. She discovered over 200 asteroids and three comments, an inspirational women.
In the astrological chart it can be related to ‘consequences’, not in an ‘ouch’ way, but as in results. It’s interesting because ‘Karma’ is conjunct the South Lunar Node at 6 Gemini this week. My take on the daily Astro Flash March 30, 2012:

I’ve gotten a lot of emails and posted questions on this asteroid so I thought I would muse a bit about it here.
Those who have my book Astrology and Aptitude – How to Become What you are Meant to be can read a short delineation. One way to get to a deeper understanding of 3811 Karma it to look at the origin of the word Karma. It is Sanskrit, from KARMAN or KAROTI, which means “to do” or “to work”. KARMA is a word and we attach meaning to it in the context of what we know, the usual being gleaned from Hindu or Buddhist “consequences of a person’s actions. Fate. Destiny. . . reaping what you sow.”
But, the word originally referred to the simple act of doing. In taking of action we have the RESULT, the consequences which will change our destiny (what we are creating in our lives.) NOTE: Karma isn’t the destiny, it is the action that leads to our ‘path’ as we walk it. We are deliberate creators. We decide. And with each thought, new worlds come into being.
In this sense, asteroid 3811 Karma is, by house, sign, aspect and transit, about ‘doing that which must be done.’ In the chart there is a kind of fulfillment, a ‘rightness’ when we activate that area of life. When the asteroid is activated in synastry (by another person’s placements) it can be that “the work or actions” of another trips our destiny switch. Being around that person when they are ‘doing’ their Karma could at times bring an epiphany or turning point. A realization. It’s a two way link that joins action with revelation.
Has anyone seen this in chart comparisons or by transit?
My natal Karma is 22 Gemini conjunct Mercury in the midst of my Gemini stellium so it’s hard for me to put my finger on it. I do to myself often things like, ‘I have to write! I have to teach!’ Perhaps there is something of the ‘doing’ that motivates my Mercury energy. I know a lot of clients and friends, and readers, that have personal planets very close to my Karma/Mercury. Interesting!
In a quick look at synastry charts I noticed that Amelia Earhart (who I did intensive research on for a case study many years back) had Neptune at 21 Gem 33. I was doing at lot of work (Karma) on her mysterious (Neptune) disappearance . . . The town where I have worked harder in my life than anywhere in the past for 20 years has Jupiter exactly opposite my Karma! And BIG results!
Looking at synastry contacts is very interesting. As in, ‘Will they be ‘hard work’? lol Seriously, as deliberate creators, we wouldn’t want to think that!
Thoughts? Where’s your asteroid Karma, and where is this Draconic South Node – 0 degrees of Libra – in your chart? Check the tutorial and ask if you need help!
o i like this … still musing … but natally, Karma is zero degrees Kataka in the 8th house … trining my moon and sextile to mercury … the doings and messages of motherlove, emotion, nurture via the depths of 8th house??? Already something resonating, but will take some time to surface I think.
Your Karma is on my Venus
and on the 0 degree ‘Aries Point’ (0 degrees of all four Cardinal signs). Interesting. You will be ‘known’ for your work. Understanding and even researching those deep ‘mother love’ emotions and bringing them out into the world to support others! Writing/counselling?
… So affirming/reassuring/wondering that I laughed: writing is my life companion (un-finished novels and newly discovered song writing) and counselling the post-grad degree that I began last year and adored but have deferred for logistical reasons …

Karma in Libra, 2nd house, and loosely conj my Pluto. Both are loosely trine my early Gemini Sun, though I often forget about that trine as I have many almost exact aspects, so a loose trine well, and it’s only Pluto …
Anyway, SN in my 10th and creeping up on my Sun. I guess it’ll be passing over my Taurus pile up as Jupiter is.
At present though both Karma and SN hanging in some empty space, probably suggesting I get on with finishing off that work before the Sun/Taurus action begins.
Hi Shell, transiting Jupiter will conjunct SNode in early July at 4 Gemini, then SN backward into Taurus August 31. Plenty of action for Gems with Venus hanging out in the sign for so long too (going to do a series of blogs on that!)
Did you notice anything when Saturn was conjunct your Karma? did it station there at all or cross three times?
Difficult to say re Saurn/Karma conj. It was in Sep 2010, my Karma is at 5, so it just missed out on the retro action.
But I have Taurus/Gem and Cancer/Leo personal planet conjunctions that start 28 ish and run to 1 Gem and 3 Leo. So all the Saturn and Uranus back and forth over the Aries and Libra cusps happening around then were aspecting all that – plus Neptune messing with my mind at the end of Aqua. And Saturn conj Pluto was coming up. I was perhaps focusing on other things.
Sept 2010 was a bit of a lull after a mega busy period starting from – ah March (Mars in Leo) – I think I was in a bit of a low ebb mode after 6 weeks overseas for work and all the associated prep that required. Maybe I missed the karma pay off of it all as I was on the couch recovering. Maybe being on the couch recovering was the karma pay off of it all? I did meet an early Libra Sun around then re some work which still hasn’t really manifest into the wonderfulness it could be but keeps on seeming like a possibility.
I am a bit unsure about the benefits of Venus in Gemini for me. The only thing I have in Gemini is my Sun, at 1 degree. Merc and Venus are in Taurus – and they’re all in 10th. I think most of the back and forth will happen in my empty 11th house. Although I sometimes (ok often) feel that my Saturn rising is a heavy weight (and particularly in the last few years) – and that I’ve lost some of my Gemini lightness under all that. (Though really I’m probably thinking nervous Gemini filthiness of my younger days – and given the multiple asides here, perhaps not.) So perhaps I should be viewing the Venus Gem thing as a great opportunity to get some flit back on.
Also, I know myself well enough to know that I need to feel somewhat stable about work, and the money/value it brings, to be able to enjoy, and want to do, the social thing. In that respect I’m more immediately excited about Jupiter return on Monday, then it crosses my MC just after Mars goes direct, and then I get conj to Venus, Merc and Sun till mid June. I am so ready for some public recognition after all the bloody work of the past few years, and Saturn/Leo rising, 10th house Venus/Merc/Sun, will feel valued and validated with an inspiring career.
So perhaps I should be viewing the Venus Gem thing as a great opportunity to get some flit back on and celebrate the wonderful Jupiter inspired career pay offs that are going to be coming my way any second now … (twiddles thumbs in the meantime)
Just saw from the ephemeris that Venus goes retro at 23 Gem, whilst Jupiter (and Sun) at 23 Taurus (conj my natal Venus) and Saturn at 24 Libra.

I think Venus through your 11th will be very social for you – more connections, more like-minded others. More lift in your step, as you say! Over your sun, think of it preheating the Jupiter on sun (and that Jupiter on natal Venus in May will be like ‘a brand new day’ feeling!)
With the Neptune square there is much to feel, create and connect to. I’m thinking ‘reverence for life’ vibe, that feeling of empathy that makes us vulnerable, open. I know Saturn has some judgments about that . . . have you ever heard Brene Brown speak on this topic. Really eyeopening!

Oh god that Neptune square was something alright. Saturn (in the 12th!) had many things to say about that. That square is in part responsible I think for turning my phd from something relatively practical/business related to something very introspective and about imagination and projection.
But I’m counting it as over till it retros back. I’m running Neptune on small orbs these days

Yes! I imagine you’d be well primed to channel the Neptune inspiration into your writing. It’d be interesting down the track to see if you can distinguish that influence as something distinct from the general development of your story telling skills.
By the time the Sun square came around I was a bit more prepared for it. Neptune square Venus on the other hand … sigh.
My vertex is at 2 pisces, I’m interested in whether that operates as some kind of culmination of it all – I’ve basically been under a Neptune square since early 2009.

Transiting Karma is doing loads of aspects to my natal planets: trines to Venus, Pluto and Jupiter,opposition to Neptune and a square to my ASC, all in tide orbe(0-2)…now I have to figure out the story….but I can relate to un underling fact in my life at this moment: a strange relationship (having a fated taste as well)
In synastry his Karma is conjunct to my Neptune and by transit he has Karma-Karma opposition! ohhhh jeeee…sounds complicated
I think of all those Karma contacts as a reminder to do the ‘work that makes you smile.’ This is in relationships as well as career/creative life. There is a need to bring your authentic values into everything you do (we all benefit from this, from being true to ourselves) but with the link to Venus and Pluto/Jupiter I’m thinking you stay connected to those core values because they transform regularly!
What you wanted a year ago might be different now. It’s like your work is to keep up with your own evolution!
Karma is conjuncting the transiting South Node
Juno is conjuncting the transiting North Node.
This is an indication of Relationship and Marriage Karma.
The transiting Nodes are in EXACT square to transiting Mars retrograde (with Eros and Psyche in tow).
I know several people who are “burning off” a lot of relationship/marriage Karma since the Mars retrograde period began on January 24th.

My Part of Fortune is conjunct your Karma… so I felt compelled to comment.
I have Karma right on my midheaven at 4 Cap, opposite my Moon, Mars, and Jupiter in the 3rd house. Square Vertex/Pallas in the 6th house. Sextile Uranus in the 7th house. Writing has always been a constant in my life (though I have few actual publications) and I am just about to start the first chapter of my dissertation, which my supervisors expect to be publishable. Starting the first paragraph has always been difficult, I always find ways to distract myself. But lately, for the past month or so (Uranus zinging along the last degrees of my 12th house, Pluto plowing through my 10th), I have honing my habits–exercising more (the primal call of my Aries rising), getting up earlier, writing in a journal, responding to events or images rather than waiting for “the perfect time”… and I think it’s working. Fingers crossed! BTW, my Karma is also sextile Utopia (my topic!) in the 11th house. Heh.

My sister’s Sun and Neptune are at 7 Libra opposite my Draconic Moon and conjunct my Venus and stellium in Libra. My Karma is at 19 Leo conjunct 9th House Uranus and MC and sextile my 11th House Sun and N. Node in Libra. My sister has a Leo Moon- not sure if the degree as well as Aries rising.
The Karma transit has lit up natally Vesta at 3 Leo, Pluto at 3 Virgo Neptune at 3 Scorpio and Mars R at 2 Gemini. My sister is gravely ill with bone cancer which was only diagnosed when Sun and Pluto were square last week. I have always been the family medical maven and especially her advocate and intermediary in her health matters. Much of my life has been helping with my mother or my sister’s health.
I once again am the “chosen one”- the doctor immediately keyed on me and took me off to show me test results and scan pictures. He could tell that I was ready for the truth as he knew it.
I am just trying to hold a space and be fully present for my sister as she absorbs this new turn of her life.

My Karma is at 18.22 Capricorn Rx. in the second house Square Venus/Mars conjunction at 20.30, 21.24 degrees Aries respectively Also Square the nodal Axis as my true NN = 23.32, And my mean NN at 22.19.
Also sextile my AC at 20.02 Scorpio.
My second is ruled by Jupiter which conjuncts Sun 7+ degree orb in 7th.
And Saturn (Karma Ruler) is in 9th. house Aspecting all my chart except Sun and moon.

Hi Tarek, Karma in Cap in the 2nd house conjures the image of self-sufficiency. If we see Karama as the ‘doing’ that takes us along our authentic path, then it is the act of developing skills and talents and resources that will sustain you. Taking it seriously. Working it.
There is a mystical side to Capricorn as well and I think you develop that along with talents that bring practical results. The link to Jupiter and the 9th house says ‘make it an adventure’, and exploration into the unknown.
Retrograde planets in general have a bit more invested in the area of life (the house) they are in. It’s like they don’t want to leave. Not yet. Perhaps a skill yet to be developed?

So, 7th house is house of marriage/partnership. Libra also represents partnership and balance… Right? I am going through a divorce right now. It’s funny to me that throughout the entire process, my inner voice says, “This is right. This is the best for me. This is not how my life in marriage should be.” I ignored that inner voice when it told me not to get married in the first place. Maybe the inner voice is karma. haha…

When you have an intercepted sign in the 7th, sometimes you just have to go with an experience (like getting married) to discover what is really authentic for you. I am guessing you know what kind of 7th house relationships you want to create now!

I’ve just come across your article, found it to be very interesting and relevant to my chart (s) at this time. Karma seems to be interacting with my Nodes natally, by Solar Arc and in my Solar Return for this year.
I have N Karma at 6 degrees Gemini 10th sextile North Node 7 degs, N Sun 4 degs and N Mercury 1 degree in Aries 8th. Karma is trine South Node 7 degs and N Mars at 1 deg in Libra 2nd.
My Solar Arc N Node is now conjunct N Karma. Solar Arc Karma is now in 12th house Leo trining N North Node and sextile N South Node. My Progressed Ascendant is also exactly conjunct Natal South Node.
In my Solar Return for this year the SR SNode is exactly conjunct N Karma at 6 degs Gemini 10th square Ascendant 3 Virgo / Mars 6 Virgo square Descendant 3 / Neptune 1 deg (6th house) / Chiron 7 degs Pisces 7th house.
Juno is conjunct SR North Node opposing Karma.
The SR South Node also sextiles SR Sun and Uranus exactly conjunct at 4 degrees Aries 8th.
SR Karma is at 2 degs Gemini square Ascendant / Mars / Descendant / Neptune and trine Vertex.
Do you have any idea as to what is going on with Karma and the Nodes, Kim?

my Karma sits in my 10th house. how true it is. I do need to work on my public image and career. I always find it difficult to assert myself in public and speaking in public is almost impossible. does 10th house include online communication ? because I am alright online?
Mel, 1111 invaded my life around the same time I met someone. His Karma is exact conjunction my ASC and 3 degrees from his south node. My Karma is 4 degrees from his North node. Many more aspects. It’s actually the reason I came back to astrology. Im having a Saturn return, Tr north node conjunction Asc, north node 8th house kinda year. Lol, trying to maintain sanity while loving every minute of this amazing year.

Wow… I’ve been searching all over the internet for understanding this asteroid Karma. I have it in a double whammy with the father of my child… his conjuncts my Sun and mine conjuncts his Sun/Pluto/North Node exactly. We have another double whammy involving our Junos and Venus also exactly. We’ve been estranged for 10 years due to his drug use… and I’ve been raising my child alone. I always wonder what I could have done different but it all happened so fast. The child’s chart is also very karmic. I find it hard to believe that this whole situation was fated to happen… but it appears that way. Astrology has been key to my healing. What do you make of the double whammy Karma conjunct Suns?
Hi Danielle, I know what you mean. It’s hard to believe that these situations are ‘fated’. I prefer to see them as a ‘choice’, a thread that is playing out in one of infinite ways in one of infinite universes. In this case, and esp with the addiction element, your choice to not stay in that drama is empowering, driven by your consciousness. You decided. Believe me, the last ten years would be a completely different ‘fate’ had you not made that stand.
There are infinite possibilities for every situation, every event, inner and outer, that is symbolized by a transit or and aspect or a synastry. I suspect the links in the charts got your attention, got you together. Was that fate or choice? Life would look very different again if you had not, or had not conceived a child.
Attraction to another is such a beautiful and complex thing, and that is reflected in the the synastry and composite charts. Like attracts like and that means what we vibrate brings to us more of the same. But the vibration isn’t a static thing, nor are we fated to vibrate on one energetic level alone. Where we have ultimate choice and freedom is in the vibe. We decide ‘where we’re at’ with the thoughts we think, and he can change it, on a dime, whenever we decide to.
So the vibe was aligned at the time and strong, as reflected in the charts. No argument there. And, probably quickly, the vibe shifted and a new set of possibilities came into view. it doesn’t negate the power of the initial attraction. It exemplifies the expansive, growing, evolving nature of the soul.
This probably doesn’t answer your question . . . I do appreciate you asking. Bottom line for any synastry to the Sun, STRONG like vibration initially and with it the urge to individuate. So there is a feeling of ‘rightness’ around the other person for a time, because we are feeling OUR Sun, but of course the purpose of the sun is toward distinction and individuality, not merging and union.
I wonder if relationship since that one have involved your Sun in the synastry or more other planets? Can you see a link between this rel with the father of your child and your individuation? Independence? Growth?
If there’s ‘fate’ anywhere, or purpose, I think it’s in that direction.

Well, without elaborating on my whole chart… my sun is in Capricorn in the 12th house in a mutual reception with a 7th house Saturn in Leo. It seems self-reliance and self-love are a strong theme. And yes, two relationships after this one were with Sun square Suns in synastry. So yes lots of clashing of the will and egos. All Sun themes… I will have to contemplate that some more.

She also was in a lot of pain because she couldnt get through to him and she died with him. Narcissus had lost touch with reality, he couldnt face the truth because he needed to believe in something that wasnt real to protect his fragile ego! Isnt that exactly what pain does to our psyche? We need to believe lies about ourselves and inside ourselves, we create false “images” or roles we play to protect our fractured egos?

People who love us, die along with us…they can try to help us, like Echo tried to help Narcissus….but in the end if we can’t break out of our inability to see beyond our own pain…which is a reflection of the parts of us we try to leave behind because we cant face the pain, if we cant break through the walls that create false realities inside ourselves…..dont we and everyone who loves us die an emotional death?

My Draconic south node is in my 5th house? I didn’t realize that the Draconic nodes were the same for everyone? Natal Karma is conjunct Pluto (5 degree orb, 9th) in Libra 10th house…also opposite Jupiter and square my ascendant exactly… any ideas on how I could interpret that one? Lovely blog and tutorials.
I have karma at 17pisces28 in 5th house. Here is what I have found and supportive chart info in case it helps others to see what it is about in their charts, hope it does as it has helped me to undertand and be patient.
Natla karma in quincunx lillith 10th house leo, square aurora 2nd house sag (so very much about hilighting and exhibiting the value of freedom of choice), I am a natural born psychic including transpersonal and symbolic sight (posiedon conj moon 12th house plus neptune 1st house scorpio opposing natal vesta) and a medium and a channel for ancient philosophy (jup conj IC, sun merc in 9th house) easily unobstructed communication with the unseen world (empty 8th house gem except vertex) Thus this is the role and the way I am here to serve (I also have hecate 6th house square merc and sextile POF) as a good source for spiritual healing and philospy (chrion in pisces opp plulto 10th house early virgo) and successfully/publicly eventually (nth node conjunct regulus 10th quincunx saturnt penultimate degree cap end of 3rd houe) I also have sedna opposing asc exact, thus experienced victim to overcome and be public about how and inspire others to have the nourishment to overcome their own.
What this tells me, and although i have looked into past lives I have no need or desire to know exactly, I am aware that I have been gifted with these abilities before and abused the priviledge, likely abused power and authority, became darth vadar or morgan type architype, so the dark lillith vengeful Isis type role which I have been working through a large karmic debt for, originally I feel was triggered by the need to defend self out of fear, which is no defense in itself as reactions were not from a good or faithful intent, thus have never been able to budge from the values of my venus ruled chart (power of the goddess) or the ethics of saturn (power oif the god) imposes on my natal blueprint, as saturn is also conjunct merlin natally.. It has been an incredibly difficult life for me, working hard only to have it removed or demolshed time and again, suffering abuse time and again, and it has taken a lot of hard unpleasant work through the depths of myself to rise above it which my chiron return recently has helped in its usual painful way for most, but now I feel I am free of it, now that uranus has passed its stationary rx point, which was on my hecate, neptune is moving to conjunct natal chiron and natal chiron is very slowly approaching karma..
To me the Karma position in a chart is indicitive of karma in play and all things being equal the potential either way to balance or heal or create good for the world in what ever way the gifts in our chart (often seen as curses but they are actually gifts) if we see them through. My karma is in my powerful imagination (pisces), with gemini it to me would be more powerful thoughts and words etc
Sorry if this is a long drawn out complicated piece of pros, but I do feel I have a good grasp on this particular asteroid in relation to my own chart and experiences and the details matter in it making sense. Namaste
oops sorry bit too quick to post, I intended to add, through this process I totally agree with what you have said above regarding fate, I feel that there is every opportunity hidden within us and therefor within our charts to do or work or achieve that which is our commitment to heal, a huge gift to heal any previous karma also, thus I am grateful for that opportunity, yet it is choice, sometimes though choice comes down to the attitude towards the experience, but even that is choice none the less, I personally feel I have avoided those choices many times before, possibly even adding to the work to be done,so I am happy and grateful to have found the courage and strength this time, including a sense of remorse at times. not just for me, but for others effected by my choices past and present..

His natal asteroid KARMA (conjunct Neptune in natal) conjuncts my south node/Pallas exactly, in synastry.(libra 11°)
Conjunct to my south node, between 8 and 12 libra , he ALSO has got:his psyche/eros midpoint, his natal conjunction Isis/osiris, his venus/moon midpoint.
opposite, on my NN Chiron, there is his vesta.
his vertex conjunct my venus/IC, so his vertex axis conjucnt my MC/IC axis, wonderful, but….. my venus /IC definitely squares his node axis. Which is less wonderful
My natal asteroid KARMA (conjunct Ceres/Juno natal) conjuncts his Eros/Chiron natal, in scorp VIII (all 5 stuck between 4°20 and 5°45)
Draconic:
his DR Karma/Neptune, conjuncts my DR Sun

Perhaps this impression of “I already know him intimately” is simply due to the fact he has all these …things stuck on my south node, so something of him seems like familiar to me ? I don’t know. Or perhaps this feeling I ‘ve got is due to the fact that he’s a Plutonian, with his Pluto conjuncts my Mars and my Sun ! It’s heavy. My Mars also conjuncts his Moon. Or perhaps, it is due to the fact that my Sun, Mercury,Mars, Venus, Uranus are in his seventh, and his Sun/Mars 12th are in my seventh ? perhaps it is due to my vertex conjunct his jup/venus, and his vertex conjunct my Jup/venus in double whammy ? A lot of things indeed, which are GLUE for me.
