Astro-LOA Flash: Asteroid 34 Circe trine Uranus brings the zany genius weirdo out in EVERYONE! There is electricity in the air, magical energy at our fingertips, available for anyone to use, or confuse. Turn this into a power generator of fabulous, creative ventures. Let the spells fly! One caveat. Undirected projections of the unconscious are rampant. Awareness. Awareness. Practice more awareness!
Are you brewing something fabulous, or is the energy going out into unconscious projections? Let’s revisit Circe to help focus!
Circe, pronounce “KIR-kee, is one of our early images of feminine magic, a precursor to many Supernatural Underground heroines. In appreciation of our roots, I thought it would be fun to explore this ‘original witch’ who sparked the imagination of the ancient world.
In Greek mythology, Circe was an enchantress, a witch of great power. The daughter of Helios (the sun which represents consciousness) and Perse (an Oceanid who represents the unconscious), she is celebrated for her knowledge of magic and the use of herbs to heal and to transform.
Circe lived on the beautiful island of Aiaia where she waited for lost sailors to wash up on shore. Sometimes she helped them and sometimes she turned them into animals and served them for dinner! She was a bit unstable. She fell for Glaucus, a merman, but when he came asking for a love potion for his beloved Scylla, Circe lost it. In rage she poisoned the pool where Scylla bathed and turned her into a hideous monster. Jealousy can do that to a person. Circe was not immune.
Years later, Odysseus cast anchor in the bay of Aiaia. When his crew searched for food and water they found Circe instead. She transformed them into swine and kept them in pens. Of course Odysseus set out to find his crew and along the way he met Hermes, messenger of the gods, disguised as a young man. Hermes gave Odysseus a plant called ‘moly’ saying that it would protect him from the Circe’s magic. (This is where we get the saying ‘holy moly!’).
Circe welcomed Odysseys and cast her spell on him, but the moly did its trick. When Circe thought the magic was working, she struck Odysseus with her wand. Odysseus drew his sword and sprang at her and Circe surrendered. She released the twenty two pig-men and restored them to their original forms but they were taller and more handsome than before they had been enswined’. That night she invited Odysseus to her bed ‘ . . . so that in love and sleep we may learn to trust one another.’
And trust they did. With his freewill intact, Odysseus stayed on the island of Aiaia enjoying the sweet and sensual embraces of Circe. They were lovers for years, long enough for them to have at least two children, Agrios and Latinos. (In mythology whenever children are born of a union it means something creative is happening!) Eventually Circe agreed to help Odysseus return home to Ithica (and his wife Penelope). She tells him how to sail to Hades and bespeak the blind seer, Tiresias. In this act she is the psychopomp, the guide to the underworld, using her magic to connect Odysseus to the depths of his own unconscious.
Circe has a rather strange relationship to love. She certainly likes to be in ‘control’ with her potions and her vanquishing of rivals, but when she surrenders, she finds something creative and beautiful (and not compelled) in Odyseus. In a way Circe represents awakening consciousness, awareness of the unseen real and a connection to intuitive powers not unlike us deliberate creators, setting intentions and following rituals to accomplish our will. With the trine of Circe to Uranus, doors open! Revelations flood in. We get to choose between being consciously aware of of our feelings, or stay blind, projecting chaos and drama onto others. Which road will you take?
And, what magic are you brewing right now? Check where Circe is in your chart and use that energy in all your deliberate creation spells!

This is very interesting Kim, I love finding out about asteroids, they give so much depth to natal charts. My Cerce is 10 degrees in the 5th house in Pisces, conjunct my Mars ( 8 degrees). That would explain my love of magic and creative expression of it through fairy drawings, mandalas etc.
Thank you for a great post!
My pleasure, Carolina. Circe in the 5th is about that magical creativity, those other worlds and also the inner child! Fairy Drawings sound amazing. And Mandalas! Do you have images on your blog/site? Would love to see them!
Also, there is very strong ‘magic’ in drawing/painting what you want to attract/express/become. You know?
Wow! sounds amazing! I do love creating vision boards, haven’t done it in a while, so will get the mags and crafty bits out again
I don’t have a site or a blog, I’m not that organised lol and there is a bit me that thinks I’m not good enough to do those things, which I now know comes from past conditioning but I think I feel safe enough to show you my pics cos you’re an awesome lady and an inspiration to me! thank you!
YOU are amazing! Those mandalas would benefit the world!!!!! I encourage you to open that door
Natal Circe is conjunct Retro Mars in 11th house. And Venus/Circe in my 7th house actually seems to be about relationship with self. Not only the nutrition and nourishment, but this week I began the work of revisiting anything I’ve ever written and wrote my first e-book, which I’ll put on my site as a free download.
But then today, revisited a collection of Winter Holiday Meditations that I desire to rework and get into form to self-publish as an ebook. I could have talked my way out of it, but I let the magic of what I felt as I was writing that whole month return to me and get me started!
xo
Oh that’s exciting! Can’t wait to see the results!
Venus/Circe (and Jupiter) transiting my 9th atm. I can say there is magic afoot on the publishing front as well. Natal Circe on the cusp of 9th in Aries opp Neptune. (Recent Circe return!) Will think back to what was happening 9 years ago. Circe runs on a half-Node cycle . . . very interesting to look at natal aspects between Circe and Lunar Nodes. (She’s square mine!)
I think all 7th house relationships mirror Self. It’s OUR 7th house after all, not theirs!
Thanks for dropping in. Please show us links to your ebooks when they are up, Better yet, come do a guest blog about them!
“She was a bit unstable” – hilarious!!! I spat tea onto my keyboard laughing!
And on a more serious note, wow – timely. I’ve been getting the message “more ritual” a lot over the past 24 hours, this has confirmed it in a big way. Even better, for probably the first time in my life, the idea of ritual sounds inspiring rather than difficult or tedious or a prison.
Wonderful! Thank you Kim; thank you Circe. xxx
lol I am laughing too! Do you think she’s Scorpio with Aries rising???? Love it!
I love also that the idea of ritual sounds exciting to you NOW! I think wonderful things will come of it! xxx
Me too! Plus I’m planning to pace myself and not try to start out with three hours of ritual in the early hours. Radically gentle
Heheheh – Scorpio/Aries *snort*
Well, that sounds like publishing and teaching magic to me! But then, all your writing has seemed magical to me, honestly!
And thanks for the guest post offer. The first ebook is about music teaching stuff but the second one is the one Circe brought my attention to!
Thank you . . . That’s so lovely
The second one then! xxx

thanks again Kim . . . I too love the Asteroids . . . your ‘awareness of the unseen real’ so describes my amazing pre-dawn morning outside today . . .. magick indeed! Circe sits with my Jupiter in the 7th . . . . have a magickal day . . . full of Beauty . . . .xxxx
and at the moment . . . she’s sitting on my Venus (which of course squares my Mars . . . but just have to love the Venus . . . .)
I’m a bit confused Kim . . . Circe . . she’s at 5 Leo presently?? If so, what are you referring to with . . . ‘conjunct Venus, sextile Neptune’? Up at 3.35am (and that’s 2.45 real time!!!) this morning. . . brain’s gone a bit awry . . xx
Yes, that was confusing, Marilyn. I posted a draft! Updated now. (this post, as you can see from the comments, is edited and bumped from March!) Thank you!
ahhh . .. didn’t notice dates on comments . . .. thanks . . . . now not confused. . . xx
My chart said Circe is unavailable!! lol… how intriguing!
What? lol that is intriguing. Did you go to Astro.com or the online ephemeris?
I went to astro.com, and looked at the extended chart (beleive that’s what its called), and when i scrolled down to the bottom where it lists the planets under the circular chart… no circe lol
Jen, did you add the number 34 to that field for the planets? Once you add the number for the planet and click to generate the chart “circe” will appear in your chart.
it worked lol … and here’s what it said: circe 20 libra 45’42. thanks, alison
yes, Jen, what Alison said. In the tutorial I add 16 Psyche and 433 Eros down at the bottom where you type the number in. That probably needed to be enlarged. Do you see it now?
Ahh, just read the above! You got it! yay! Thanks Alison!
Isn’t it fun to figure this out!! Thank you Kim and Jen. I always feel that if I can help with astrology it means I am learning as well!! You just confirmed it for me! A stripe is being added!!
I have Circe at 3 degrees of Libra and smack in the middle of my first house on my natal chart…
So she’s been majorly activated these last few years!!!!
The thought of her presence there tempts me to plot mischief….:D – but thanks – that might explain a thing or three….
Ah seeing your ‘tempt me to plot mischief’ tempts me to plot mischief. Such a lovely turn of phrase. I do love the word mischief. And curiosity.
Seems the vibe is twanging off me today.
This is interesting, given that my mom, who fell and broke her pubic bone, is with us after a month in the hospital and rehab. T Circe is on my MC (the mother is sometimes represented by the 10th house) and Uranus is headed toward my 6th.) She is healing, but after the past month, I am understandably exhausted. I’ve been eating right and trying to exercise, and have truly felt inspired, but realized that I have to change some inner compass or I will end up with my own health problems, angry and physically hurting from the effort of keeping all the balls in the air.
What a wonderful energy to cook up a change!!!
Wow! I’m so glad I reactivated this post. Thanks for chiming in, Cate. Circe on the MC, mischief with Mother! You will need a magical, rejuvenating holiday. Hope it comes soon!
Just the other day I discovered I have Circe conjunct Lilith in Aries/9th. Lilith is exact conjunct my Sun/Moon midpoint. It’s a funny thing to try to think through, my Gem sun is loaded with lots of earth influences, and my Pisces moon is super slippery flippy floppy. And the key to bringing them together is some kind of take no prisoners witchy super nerd thing. Weirder because I can kind of see it, though not so sure about letting it off a leash. I also have Eros and Chiron in that little cluster, 6 degrees off Lilith.
And so deserved your praise from Janette Maw, and the hint of your school plans. I’m super excited for you, and the unveiling.
That’s POTENT! Unleash through some amazing original thinking! Blast through social and cultural norms. Leading the way to new horizons or what? !!!
Yes, I guess my work is a bit that. Although in context with the rest of my chart I can see ways it is held back. The key is working out how to use it for my good, rather than evil.
They’re both reactive characters right – strike out as a form of protection?
I can see Saturn nodding approvingly in his dark corner.
Thank you Kim! Love the post and the Waterhouse art. My Circe is cusp of the 12th, opposite Mercury/Mars Leo (7/12 degrees) conjunction in 5th. Brave & truly magical times in heart connections for me.
Blessings to you!
Beautiful, Melissa. I hope you keep a dream journal!
Really interesting post once again Kim, thank you…
Natal Circe is 28 degrees Capricorn in my 9th house. In transit, it’s conjunct my I.C (3 degrees Leo) and will be conjunct my Mercury and Part of Fortune at 11 and 12 degrees respectively…lots to think about! Can already see the significance of the transit…communication and creativity being “brewed” from home. Not sure about the significance of the natal placement though..although it is sextile my Chiron-Saturn conjunction in Pisces in 11th. I’m thinking: sextile harmonious, Capricorn structure..so maybe being conscious of Circe’s energy can help with giving structure to hopes and dreams/healing for me?
Only just caught up with your Icarus post, also great reading, thanks!
That Circe in the 9th is popular here. Like Shell, I have it there too, in Aries. I think your placement is about breaking through limiting beliefs, cultural and social norms and expectations as you bring to life new ways of thinking, new forms of learning, expansion and awareness. The magic is in your original interpretation of reality. You use that magic to teach others, to pave new roads.
That makes complete sense Kim, thanks. (I wasn’t factoring in the house placement – duh! – in too much of a hurry.) Funnily enough, I think I can recognize how all the things you mention actually DO help me to achieve my goals as well, my original thought – my goals are inextricably linked to breaking through certain social norms. What I also realized about 3 hours after writing that post was that as my M.C is 3 degrees Aquarius, Circe is actually conjunct at 28 Cap, so even more potent. Def recognize not being “with the crowd” in a way which I’ve sometimes perceived as painful, but which increasingly, I’m being told, inspires people around me..the limitations as always are in my head first and foremost. Excellent.
WOW.. this was fun checking to see where Circe is located in my chart. And how appropriate with what is currently going on in my life as critical to happiness. Circe is natally in my 1st house. It is transiting my 10 th house. If I pulled the right information the 10th house does involv professional destiny. So, what am I brewing…. a great department for this new company. I “think” they know what I am going to do for them based on my experience so I hope that is where it will go because it will be a tremendous help to my new manager. I already see the plan! LOL!!!! The money has already started so I an hopeful that it will continue to rise!
Kim, Thank you!!
Sounds awesome, Alison, and yes, this is the magic in your career, mission, profession. Brilliant new ideas. Break the mold!!!
thanks for this. I found Circe retrogade in Aquarius 4th house, opposite my Sun and Mercury. I remember my childhood wishes that had manifested. some of them are truly impossible to achieve on my own, but since they manifested, I realize now it’s true what Audrey Hepburn said “nothing is impossible. the word itself says I am possible”
:) also it sextiles my Neptune in the 1st house. sometimes dreams and visions show me what will happen, what is happening and what has happened.
but both are retro, so will that be stronger or not as much soemthing like that?
OK just found out what Neptune retro is all about. I can see the connection now with Circe retro and my own life experience. thanks again for the articles you wrote very informative
