Notes on Scorpio
1) Scorpio has duel rulers in Pluto (modern) and Mars (traditional), ruler of Aries as well. There is great passion in both of these planets: Mars for survival, power and victory; Pluto for the erotic (in the ancient Greek sense of the word: the kind of experience that brings two or more people together in such a way that a lasting transformation is created).
2) Scorpio rules sexual intimacy, the wielding of power, dangerous sports, life and death situations, emergency condition, taboo liaisons—anything that requires risk or threatens existence. Anything that brings life into clearer focus.
3) Where we find Scorpio in the horoscope is where we need to experience life in the moment and on the edge. It is where we need to merge our energy with others to create something we could not do on our own. This erotic merging can not transpire until we have severed our umbilical ties with the past. To this end, Scorpio is about the enticement to leave the juvenile ties that keep us dependent so we may form adult-to-adult relationships. Scorpio asks that we leave our familiar ground, be it supportive or destructive, and venture out into the world to re-create ourselves anew.
ARIES: The pioneer in you may want to strike out on your own, but the eclipse is itching for contact, connection, action and not the superficial, metaphorical ‘one night stand’ kind. If you find yourself provoking fights and arguments, rethink your intimate life. Where are you resisting creative engagement with another?
TAURUS: The eclipse in your opposite sign of Scorpio places the emphasis right on you personal, one-to-one relationships. This is about commitment to your social connections, business or otherwise. Are you engaging completely and with your whole heart? Set intentions around living the relationship of your dreams.
GEMINI: Sometimes Gemini can be so busy, so of the mind, that the body becomes a vehicle only, perhaps a neglected one. Use this powerful eclipse to connect with your physicality, set into motion a new health, fitness, exercise routine and discover the meaning of holistic awareness. Mind-body-spirit.
CANCER: You might have gotten into the habit of pleasing others to such a degree that your own personal creative self-expression has suffered, or taken a back seat. If so, you’ll want to make an artistic play-date with yourself. Set intentions around honoring your Muse, engaging in recreation and having Fun!
LEO: Much of your intensity is naturally expressed out in the world, in the public performance domain, but this lunar even pulls you into the depths of your Self. Where you crave intensity is in the roots of your being, private, domestic, introspective. Plumb the depths of your soul, for best results.
VIRGO: The urge for intensity comes out in conversation and those can get heated, passionate, volatile. Power struggles demand resolution and this is the perfect time to remind yourself, and others, where you stand: on your own two feet. Discover the power of your words as a creative force to be reckoned with.
LIBRA: Intentions set around the authentic expression of your core values and sense of self-worth serve you well on this eclipse. Transformation is afoot and it’s reflected in all the ebb and flow of energy – money, emotions, projects, support. Notice what lights your fire. Are you getting enough of that?
SCORPIO: Your personal new moon, the eclipse brings any power issue home to roost. You meet contrast face on, warrior stance, ready to engage. Remember, it’s intense connection you want. Check in to how you’re attracting it. Creatively? Destructively? You decide how this goes.
SAGITTARIUS: As much as you like a crowd, this eclipse is about retreat into the realms of the unconscious, a journey of dreams and inner horizons. Set intentions around self-reflection via meditation, service to others less fortunate, connection with all life. Risk something to make a difference.
CAPRICORN: Your leadership capability is longing for challenge, growth and the testing of metal. Are you utilizing your talents to the max? Engage with the ‘group’, lead the way, push past fears. The realm of one-to-many connection calls. Own your power and set your intentions there.
AQUARIUS: Whatever challenges and potent engagements the solar eclipse brings, they won’t be secret. It’s all happening in the public eye where you are recognized, talked about, reviewed. Put the focus on your social connections, career and mission in life. Redefinition is in order. Think big!
PISCES: The solar eclipse in your house of new horizons coincides with an intense desire to explore the unknown. You want to expand and are willing to take risks, engage your power, and try new things to do so. Set intentions to make your life bigger, more meaningful, more aware! Ride this wave!
Where is the eclipse in your natal chart? Feel free to share your intentions here. (And remember, the eclipse energy can activate 30 days before or 30 days after the event. Eyes open!)

Thank you!
Here’s how the magic panned out for me; http://wp.me/p2tgJh-3x
Wow! Amazing!
….and oh how I love that: “Scorpio asks that we leave our familiar ground, be it supportive or destructive, and venture out into the world to re-create ourselves anew.”
Having planets aligned with transforming intentions and amplified by something like an eclipse is so excitingly full of potential. It’s like being handed a sword, staff, wand or potion wonderfully laden with strong magic to wield.
Yes, so well said. Your depiction made me think of The Magician in the Tarot deck. Fits too, consciousness, potential, intention, creation!
The eclipse is in my 4th and opposite my Venus. The house sale process, which will feature a multitude of strangers getting to come into my sanctuary and look at all my stuff/way of living, begins in earnest the day afterwards. My poor kitty cat isn’t going to enjoy that.
Am also feeling the tension between Scorpio at the bottom and Taurus at the top of my chart. The latter is loaded with planets, yet all the transit action is in the former right now. Thinking about how they work together/subvert each other.
and my ‘for sale’ flat got posted on the net today. Hello strangers, come and have a look through my private home world. wwwaaaaahhhhhh!!!!
I soooooooooo feel for you. Where Scorpio is we are the most private and the IC, well, some astrologers call it the I don’t See . . . it’s were we REALLY like things to be kept behind closed doors, unless we have something like Sagittarius there or maybe Pisces and then we throw those doors open to the world.
Even if you ‘don’t see’ the whole point of this cosmic exercise, trust the universe that it’s taking you to a really great place. I’d be trying to relax and working my ‘this or something better’ mantra daily.
Yes, I have been trying to. Or at least it’s fuelling an amusing range of jokes re the potential purchaser outcomes
It was as much very interesting to note my reaction to seeing my home up there, on a poster in the street and on the web. A weird external view on very internal things.
I am interested in the polarity between Ta and Sc, and it is a polarity. They are the SAME energy beam, just opposite ends. Thinking to reread what I wrote years in my Eros book. This is about composite charts (were there are always a near midpoint and a ‘far’ midpoint so that BOTH opposing signs are activated), but there is a relevant quality.
Taurus – Scorpio: Inertia verses Upheaval
The way up is the way down.
–Heracleitus
These two signs are traditionally ruled by Venus and Mars/Pluto respectively. The polarity involved is similar to the love verse power over dilemma in that Taurus yearns for peace at the expense of change and Scorpio yearns for change at the expense of peace. Taurus, in this sense, is passive and Scorpio ruthlessly active.
Then it goes on about Eros (my Eros at 27 Scorp in the 4th is zapped by the eclipse as well as my 24 degree IC)
. . . When Eros is found in either of these signs, the emphasis is placed on the balance between stagnation and destruction. Too much Taurean stability can turn a placid lake into a cesspool and too much upheaval can leave it looking like a strip mine. There needs to be a balance between the divergent drives.
The Taurus/Scorpio dynamic also implies the difference between the earthy epithemia love of Taurus and the intimate and erotic love of Scorpio. Taurus wants sensual pleasure and Scorpio wants to turn that pleasure into erotic transformation. Taurus wants to recognize the partner, and herself in the mirror the next day; Scorpio does not.
Composite Eros in either of these signs suggests the need to balance sensual pleasure, passive security and peace with erotic transformation, upheaval and unknown fate. As a couple, risks must be taken with a sense of trust that defies human imagination. The propensity to fall into a secure but stagnant peace must be replaced with the willingness to traverse new territory. The urge to destroy the union when it becomes over challenged must be countered with a sensible and steady realism . . .
I think for me it’s about that ‘willingness to traverse new territory’ by first releasing the old habits and thoughts (re home, family, origin . . .)
Interesting.
I had to stop for dinner and a real computer before tackling this. And the chance to ponder. I love it. Particularly the ‘peace at the expense of change, and change at the expense of peace’ and the bit about recognising or not in the morning.
The house thing is so interesting because it can be seen as the last stable thing becoming unstable … all that Taurus/10th house stuff seems to be stuck in an unstable inertia. And yes you’re right, it’s just about seeing where it goes.
More broadly this Scorpio emphasis comes along at the end of that Neptune square Taurus stuff. My moon is in Pisces/8th, and square neptune nataly, so it’s like the fog is going to begin to clear to reveal (the need for?) instability/change. I have Uranus and NN in Scorp too, but in the 3rd.
I moved to Melb not long before the Neptune square began, and Melb is on my Uranus/IC line, Bris was on my Sat/Asc line. It’s like I moved here in time for it all to go internal/ squishy/unstable. And now that Saturn, of all people, has turned up is when it all begins to come to a head (or a tail as it were?).
So it’s about working with how instability in roots/home (which is also really embedded in neighbourhood) in some ways open up ways into that moon (which is trine my NN/IC anyway), yet still maintains some kind of 10th house stability.
Interesting times are just beginning …
I have Scorpio 15 degrees/ascendant in first house, also Mars in Saggitarius 04 degrees in first house. Not sure of the implications here.
Hi Kim-
It is so exciting to have the positive perspective on this potent time!! Seems like everthjnv is Sciepio because Saturn is lighting up my Moon, Neptune and Jupiter. Processing grief and joy- my sister died in June- I’m the matriarch now- for my daughter, sons and three nieces. I loved what you wrote about the warrior stance!!
My ASC is 14 Scorpio- Part of Fortune is 26 Scorpio where transiting N Node lies. That seems powerful! LOL!!
Saturn is 21 Sag in 2nd. The Solar Eclipse Part of Fortune is exactly conjunct Mars in Gemini. Venus conjuncts my Sun and natal Venus for the eclipse. I should play the lottery or make out my will! LOL! My martial arts practice has ramped up and I am a lot faster than I used to be even a few weeks ago.
Processing natal family karma as I’m the last one standing. Much success at work- getting pro bono lawyers for women, elders and fragile folk. Rocking The Work with Byron Katie. Namaste!!love you and your elegant, inspiring star talk!!!
Midlifemiracles, thank YOU for your post. I love your positive take on your life and yes, that Scorpio Ascendant, (my exact Draconic Asc btw) is empowered by this all. You sound like you are evolving at the speed of light! Fabulous.
And I send warmth and comfort for losing your sister. Sisters are angels to cherish . . . And yes, YOU step up. You are the matriarch and your line goes on.
Just note, with the part of fortune, that point (and I should have made mention of this) is different depending on ‘where’ the eclipse is (where on earth you are in relationship to the eclipse). I did that chart with natural houses because the houses themselves will be different all over the world (unless we a solar chart or a natural chart house system). So, tell me where you are and we’ll work out the POF and vertex for your area. (the part of fortune is the Asc + the Sun – the Moon so it’s always in the same relationship to the Asc as the sun is to the moon.) It that doesn’t make sense, let me know!
Hi Kim, I am in Farmington Hills, MI USA which is close to Detroit. You actually did my chart in March of last year-and I asked what my Venus wants.Your insights have been a lifeline- thank you so much! With Scorpio, we have much of the “school of horrible example” as my father used to say. My dear husband has a supertight Pluto/Sun conjunction in Leo- he does criminal defense and loves seeing the powerful brought low. Unfortunately, he sees family as fair targets so much of my work has been re-framing his ‘gotcha’ game for myself and our children. That transformative energy needs a positive outlet- all the time.
Yesterday, the Eclipse Gifts were total immersion baptism for my iphone in the toilet- LOL AND insights about primary relationships and how they echo the search for maternal approval (that was transiting Saturn on Moon/Neptune I think). WOW! My mother never approved of my choices in school- and was CONSTANTLY critical. I quit- but then ended up with many BFFs and a husband who only wanted an audience- and not anyone else on stage. I loved your Scorpio take on warrior stance- because that’s where I have been. I had horrible social anxiety for years and it is gone. I truly believed that incurring my mother’s wrath- anyone’s displeasure would be fatal.
The deepest healing has come from tapping/EFT with a gifted healer- and The Work. Erasing old beliefs, expectations and stories. Being “senior in my own space” and doing healing/ meditation work with a great teacher and circle. When I hear my children echo my old critical self, I cringe and try to encourage a benign perspective and curiosity.
I would love to hear where the PF and Vertex are- because they are both points of which I understand little. It’s great to know that we have points in common- I am not surprised.
Thank you for your wonderful, caring and kind community that you have created. Wishing everyone lots of unknown blessings in the days ahead!
Kelly
Melody, did you look at the basic meanings of the houses to get a hint of what’s activated? http://www.kimfalconer.com/houses.html The eclipse in the first house makes you a ‘solar Scorpio’ so read that scope to start. I think it’s totally relevant as your Mars will be triggered later in the month by the lunar eclipse. Things come up to test how strong you stand up for yourself and show you were, and how, to go about the changes you want to make , esp in the realm of expression. How do you get your point across? How do you express your power? Those sort of questions. Can you relate?
Yes, I definitely relate to it now. Thanks so much, Kim.
eclipse conjunct south node and neptun? may i ask for a few more thoughts please?
What house is this happening in?
And has a mysterious strangers from the past appeared out of nowhere?
excuse me, kim, i didnt saw that you answered. it happened in my second house and nobody appeared – not old, not new.
Ah but that’s the thing about these eclipses. The timing. 30 days before and 30 days after (a 3-4 day time span then) so eyes open mid-December! Also, don’t take it too literally. It can come in something your read, a movie, a dream, an image. It’s the feeling that is evoked. Play with it!
Having a bit of an unscheduled eclipse event myself. Will be back soon to talk about all these interesting placements. Thanks everyone for jumping in!
I hope it’s a good unscheduled event xxo
Ah well, you know I’m all for not judging a situation as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ but energy just as it is, and this energy fits – it’s intense, risky and making me FEEL a whole lot . . . or it will as soon as I stop and fully feel it.
Eclipse was 2 degrees from my IC trine Uranus and I get a call from ‘home’ that my mum’s in hospital. Which could be supportive but, on board with Mercury Rx, it took my sis and I a day just to find out which hospital and what room (which turned out to be the wrong floor . . . it goes on.) The eclipse is also semi-sextile my Neptune and the amount of mystery and mixed messages astounds me. Hopefully I get a hold of her before they shut the power off for six hours tomorrow. (the time diff is making for smaller windows for contact). Eclipse city!!!
I’m plumbing the depths, ‘for best results’. Who writes this stuff? lol
Ah, sounds a little like a crazy time/communication vortex. I hope that your mum is doing okay, and you get to speak to her soon xxo
P.s. Truly love your work Kim
Thank you! Yes, things are sorting out!
Scorpio on the 12th house cusp at 23 degrees… So i guess its time to recreate myself through spiritual transcendance, intuition and the unconscious. Take off all the shackles from the past and allow myself to just be, trust and have faith…
That’s beautifully said. Yes, sounds like it to me. Am maybe, if it feels right, find a collective to immerse in – like an environmental group, or no homeless pets, or a clean water awareness or a meditation group. It can be a very powerful time to work with others through a ’cause’ . . . helping those less fortunate is very 12th house ‘service.’ It appears when it’s the right time
Venus @ 21 Scorpio, Sun @ 23 Scorpio in the first house. Everything is in an upheaval in my life right now, but I think all is for the better.
Just ‘thinking’ it’s for the better is making if for the better. Read what I wrote to Shell about the polarity between Taurus wanting to keep things ‘the same’ and Scorpio wanting upheaval. So apt! Thanks for dropping in!
My BFF/ cousin never wants the boat rocked- she has lots of Taurus including Sun and Moon. Her attititude is -suck it up for the good of the clan. We have butted heads often- because I can only stand so much.We had a big row at a gathering because the baby sitter I supplied wasn’t allowed to sit at the table with the family.I smiled sweetly and refused to sit until everyone had aplace at the table! LOL!She did apologize and we made up. I love her all the more for our differences.
I have Uranus square my Scorpio Asc from the 9th!We strive for dynamic harmony and humor to avoid judgment, stagnation and boredom. Our common ground is changing family traditions but still gathering together. I have Taurus on the 7th and have Mars in Gemini square Pluto in the 10th– we have had many intensive discussions/arguments/go-rounds. Much mutual affection and respect carry us. She would do anything for me and I for her. But we can make each other crazy at our most extreme!
Kim, I have learned so much from all of your insights to different comments, as well as hearing about others’ journeys. Thank you all!!!!
Kelly
Thank you, Kelly. Your description is so apt – the Taurus ‘don’t rock the boat’ and the Uranus square Scrop rising – this WILL transform! Now!’ Love it! Thank you for posting.

Hi Kim,
So, I am posting my comment here as well: for our charts with the eclipse happening at the base of the chart, conj the IC at 25 Sc, how would the 3rd/4th house activated? I also have my natal Neptune in 24 Scorpio. And then, the upcoming Full Moon/Lunar eclipse on 6 Gem is aspecting my natal Sun 8 and Venus 3 Gemini in 10th.
If I were the human being standing, the soil beneath my feet would be shocked and wet, but I don’t know what would be the equivalent metaphor for the top of my head!
Hi Liliane, I think you’d be feeling that activation NOW and know exactly what dust was being kicked up, or, you’ll get an experience of it mid December. We don’t always have a major turning point epiphany ON these events. It’s interesting. Neptune can ‘defuse’ energy so that it turns a lightning strike into a fog or mist that wafts around, clouds things up and then evaporates.
Questions to ask Self: What am I feeling at the core of my being? How am I connected to family and clan? How easy is it to communicate to my blood relations? Do I want to change that? Most importantly, we ask, Am I feeling empowered at the roots of my soul?
The roots are deep, like an ancient tree’s,
and in it’s highest branches,
the birds sing.
Thank you Kim, that’s beautiful. I just made a major move from San Francisco to Washington DC a few days ago, so it will be interesting to observe what happens in the next few weeks at the “root of my soul”!
Hugs, L
